Pan Astral is an American rock band formed in Denver, Colorado in 2010. Conceived by Gabriel Otto and longtime musical collaborator Ryan Burnett (Signal Path) in a small basement room, Pan Astral later added three members as Burnett transitioned to other projects. The band has since graduated to an upstairs loft in Denver's RiNo arts district where they continue to write and rehearse their unique style of music.
Soaring melodies and breakbeats underlain with lush, ambient soundscapes define the band's cathartic sound and explosive performances. The dreamlike storytelling of Gabriel's lyrics hint at emotional and philosophical themes, such as their song ICU which declares, “I do see you like I see the moon from where I'm standing, staring through the clouds, you kiss the world so softly.”
Following the release of two full length albums, Pan Astral's EP, “Color Field”, has been hailed as their best work yet. With a new approach to writing influenced by the process of creating a collage, they collectively layer, add, and subtract from the canvas, spontaneously contributing and being inspired by each others' ideas.
The band's energetic performances feature projection mapping onto handmade stage sets, highlighting their affection for visual and performance art. With a penchant for collaborating with art galleries and DIY venues, their shows have evolved into refined, highly unique experiences. They have toured with El Ten Eleven and Flobots, and worked in collaboration with Lotus both live and in the studio. Pan Astral consists of Kyle Zender (bass, keyboards), Tad Lusk (guitar, backing vocals), Gabriel Otto (bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals), and Michael Smith (drums, backing vocals).
"Color Field" is the band's third album. The album features songs like "Mile High City," and "You Need."
